DNA VS. THOMAS JEFFERSON
By Ronald C. Tobin
To the disappointment of many alleged scholars and apologists
for the Founding Fathers, DNA evidence has all but conclusively
proved that the Master of Hypocrites, Thomas Jefferson, did in
fact father at least one child with his slave mistress, Sally
Hemings. It is likely that additional research will show him
to be the likely father of all of her children. This revelation
came as no surprise to me, nor did it surprise the more honest
scholars who already guessed that the weight of circumstantial
evidence on the matter was quite compelling. Only the icon-worshipping
establishment historians with a vested interest in maintaining
the myth of near sainthood for the Founding Fathers really denied
the plausibility of this matter.
What does this revelation really prove? It proves that Jefferson
did not practice what he preached. He dared to write, in the
Declaration of Independence, that "all men are created equal,"
while owning nearly two hundred of them! I guess it was all right,
in his eyes, to own slaves - they were not whites. People who
say one thing and do another are indeed hypocrites - which is
why I call Jefferson one. Some scholars are coming forward, trying
to say that Jefferson would have married Hemings had the laws
at the time allowed it. Nothing that I am aware of in Jefferson's
papers supports this contention. If Jefferson really cared about
Hemings as a person, he could have freed her and the children
he fathered - but he did not do this during his lifetime.
Amazing though it sounds, there are actually a few people who
are trying to vindicate Clinton's recent behavior by comparing
it to Jefferson's. If it was all right for Jefferson to have
an affair, then it was all right for Clinton to have one. By
generally accepted moral standards, the comparison is preposterous.
Had Hemings been a free woman, Jefferson's conduct would have
been (in 'society's' eyes) somewhat less reprehensible than was
Clinton's, as Jefferson's wife was dead. As it is, Clinton's
affair with Lewinsky does not hold a candle to Jefferson's with
Hemings. Clinton did not own Monica, Jefferson did own Hemings.
Monica was a consenting adult, Jefferson did not have to concern
himself with Hemings' consent as she was his property. To justify
Clinton by Jefferson's example is ludicrous. Jefferson the slavemaster hypocrite, in spite of DNA evidence and the historical record, will remain a hero in the eyes of many. Just goes to show how well the big lie of the Founding Fathers still sells among the masses. |
